Achieve More by Showing Gratitude to Others and Yourself

Learn the power and potential of showing gratitude and how it can become one of the most decisive factors in ensuring higher degrees of success for yourself.

You have heard of this word before, and probably know that it simply means a feeling of appreciation and thankfulness. The word gratitude may be a mouthful, but showing it is effective and simple. Knowing the power and potential of showing gratitude and applying it accordingly can be the most decisive factor in ensuring better degrees of success for yourself.

How can gratitude contribute to your success? Gratitude invokes a positive feeling in those around you to whom it is shown. It’s known to alter a person’s perspective of negative feelings or beliefs about others and themselves by exchanging them for thoughts of things for which people are grateful. Gratitude raises your awareness and focus and can inspire you to improve.

There are several other benefits of gratitude, but people still do not apply it wisely or offer it generously. Instead, they often criticize others and themselves. To see if you fall under this category, take the next few seconds to ponder over the following questions:

  1. What obstacles hinder you from showing gratitude to others or yourself?
  2. How can you overcome these obstacles?
  3. How can you unleash an onslaught of gratitude to others or yourself?

The obstacles identified are mainly negative thoughts, emotions, and beliefs that may hinder you from showing gratitude and success.

Now that you are clearer about gratitude's benefits let’s discuss how to start showing gratitude to yourself. First, you must appreciate all your achievements, big or small. When was the last time you rewarded yourself for those achievements? If you have constantly been doing so, that’s good for you, and keep it up. If not, it’s about time you start indulging or pampering yourself with rewards for your past achievements.

Next, appreciate what you have—your job, workplace, house, wealth, family, food, and surroundings. Showing gratitude for these things can seem impossible, but don’t fret. You can write them to a list and then write thank you notes for each. Keep referring to this list when you’re sad or depressed and instantly feel a surge of happiness or positive emotions.

So far, we have covered how you can show gratitude to yourself. Now, let’s discuss how you can show gratitude to the others around you. You can do that in many ways, but let’s cover a few of the easy and important ones. They’ll likely prompt you to think of others that can be implemented as part of your routine.

Complement, praise, and show appreciation to those around you rather than putting them down. You’ll soon gain their respect and trust, and they’ll be more likely to assist you in achieving more.

  1. Make a thank you list of all the people you are grateful for and refer to it often.
  2. Express your gratefulness to the people who have contributed to your success by saying thank you or writing them a note of appreciation.
  3. Give the people around you gifts that cannot be bought with cash, such as your valuable time, sacrifice, or something else of the utmost importance to you.
